We are delighted to announce the appointment of Abena-Mintaah Mensah as our new Creative Producer. Abena will support our programmes of creative work in Butetown and Grangetown, bringing people together and nurturing potential within these communities. We want to empower people of all ages and backgrounds to join us in exploring what opera can and should look like today – as audiences, participants, facilitators and creators. Originally from Splott, Cardiff, Abena-Mintaah is beyond passionate about the arts and ALL things music. She is very excited to join MTW as their new Community Producer, where she’ll be support MTW’s programmes of creative work in Butetown and Grangetown.
Abena has worked with young people across artistic disciplines to help develop their artistic practice. As part of National Theatre Wales’ TEAM, she helped engage with communities throughout Wales, enriching the NTW community and helping to inspire young people to get involved in the arts.
As a musician, Abena performs under the name Adjua – a Welsh-Ghanaian alt-RnB vocalist and guitarist who has been making music since 2021. She writes and produces her own music, drawing inspiration from her life experiences and her spirituality. Last year, she was awarded the Triskel Award at the Welsh Music Prize – an award presented annually to three emerging artists from Wales – and this year she performed at Glastonbury.
