The Jollof House Party Opera
A 20-min pop-up blending hip-hop and opera in a fiery kitchen drama. Live, bold, and unapologetically vibrant.
Chef Adeola is feeling the heat – and we’re not talking pepper soup! With a new baby, a business to run, and a food safety inspection looming, the pressure is rising. Can they handle it, or will it all boil over?
When we first performed this piece the audience reaction was amazing!
“The mix of hip-hop and opera really worked. Really got my toes tapping”
“The music, the energy! The shades of light and dark keeping us on our toes. The food!”
“Awesome show! Infectious joyful energy from the music and singing”
“More please!”
Written and performed by Welsh-Nigerian artist Tumi Williams and directed by Elayce Ismail, this vibrant new production also stars April Koyejo-Audiger, Black British Theatre Award winner. It’s a celebration of modern, multicultural Cymru – reshaping perceptions of opera and bringing live performance into unexpected spaces.
After the performance, audiences are invited to stay and share food – continuing the celebration through conversation, community, and flavour.
Based on the Celtic Film Award-winning short film by the same creators. Originally co-created by Tumi Williams and Sita Thomas.
A Fio and Music Theatre Wales co-production.
