The One-Night House (Tŷ Unnos)

“On top of a hill, far away from anything or anyone, a mystical house appears overnight, offering travellers the best night of their lives – if they’re willing to pay its price. When the Tŷ Unnos ensnares a travelling band, the musicians must perform to win their freedom. The audience will decide who stays and who leaves. Will the band break free, or will the show go on forever?”
Music Theatre Wales is delighted to be part of this unique collaboration with Sinfonia Cymru, combining music, theatre, and storytelling to create an immersive experience for young audiences. As part of the project, we commissioned the creatives Joy Becker and Tamar Eluned Williams to compose a brand new aria, which will be sung by the magical Tŷ Unnos itself, with a performance by Johnny Herford.
We are delighted that Johnny Herford is able to join us on this project following his previous performances with MTW as Josef K in The Trail, as Him in Passion, The Golden Dragon (most memorably as an Air Hostess) and in Denis & Katya.
Led by storyteller Tamar Eluned Williams and featuring musicians from Sinfonia Cymru, Tŷ Unnos also includes songs and creative input from pupils at:
- Carreghofa CP School
- Forden CIW School
- Franksbridge CP School
- Newbridge-on-Wye CIW Primary School
- Penmaes School
- Priory CIW School
- Welshpool CIW Primary School
Tŷ Unnos will be performed in various locations between Monday 3 March 2025 and Wednesday 5 March 2025. More information is available on the Sinfonia Cymru website.
This project is made possible by the Colwinston Charitable Trust, Mid Wales Music Trust, and Arts Council Wales.
